Celebrating the 100th Anniversary
RFC/RAF Canada WW1 "X" Squadrons
The most exciting era at the farm was during WW1 in the years of 1917 & 1918 when the land was secured for an airfield for the Royal Flying Corps to train Canadian pilots to fight in Europe during the Great War. Sadly though over 50 men lost their lives around/or in the fields while in training; one German spy was reported killed firing squad style by the oak grove near sucker creek & buried in front of the barracks. To this day it is tradition to “not cut the hay” at that location; it is recognized “where the grass stays green”.
Pictures and stories of the event will be updated / uploaded shortly. Please revisit again soon.
