The Kimmett Family Farm

Strong agricultural roots can be found at the Kimmett Heritage Farm. It was settled by United Empire Loyalists in 1784 and has continued to operate as a farm  since those early settlement days.

In 2017 the farm received recognition from the Province of Ontario in Celebration of more than 150 years of farming.

The farm's Canadian heritage contributions were also featured in a story in Better Farming Magazine.  Link attached.

The Kimmetts put down roots at the farm during the Great Depression when in 1933 Wilbert Kimmett entered a farm lease and 13 years later purchased the farm.

Wilbert later transitioned the farm to his son Ralph and his children. Ralph later transitioned the farm to Winton.

In 1968 the main barn burnt after being hit by lightning. Winston "Grant" the third generation at the time was operating the farm and made the shift to beef cattle during the farm rebuild.

Grant's son Terrence, now fourth generation Kimmett on the farm is proudly  operating a Hereford Cow/Calf operation under the name of Gold-Wing Ranch with his  wife Nancy and children.

In Memory of Winston "Grant"

In 1968 the main barn burnt after being hit by lightning. Winston "Grant" with his high school sweetheart Kathleen, known as "Cookie"  were operating the farm and made the shift to beef cattle during the farm rebuild.

A fellow friend and avid Hereford man Mr.Birdsell suggested the Hereford breed and directed Grant to local Hereford sales. He spoke of the docility, maternal instinct and easy fleshing of the Hereford which is what sold Grant on the breed. What was to be a few animals to supplement the feedlot turned into 5-10 and a bull. This number quickly grew by the 1990’s to 60-80 Hereford females that the family would calve out annually bred to Hereford bulls.

Grant and Terry also worked together to become part of the pilot group to send Hereford females to Russia/Kazakstan to develop the government beef project.

Grant's grandchildren Kaitlyn and Josh were immersed in the cattle  business attending various 4H shows, Junior Hereford events, Hereford gatherings and sales. They themselves became Canadian Hereford  Association members with Kaitlyn being featured in  Canadian Hereford Digest. Link attached.

Later joining in were Montana and Bryn who also used Herefords for their 4H projects and Nathan who recently bought his first cow at River Valley Polled Herefords.

Even though his son Terry  took on the farm the in the late 1990’s Grant was never far away to lend a hand or help his grandchildren at  shows and sales.
